ISL Qualify For AKOFA League Final

Defending champions of AKOFA Ivy Basketball League, International School, Akoka, Lagos, ISL, have qualified for  this year’s edition of the annual championship after they defeated Whitesands School, Lekki, Lagos by 38-12 points in the semi final played on Saturday at the Rowe Park basketball court, Yaba, Lagos.

The other team to play ISL in the final are still unknown as the team from Doregos Private Academy Lagos await the winners of the last quarter final match between Chrisland School and Afis Private School for the second semi final match.

The AKOFA Ivy league is an annual basketball tourney for boys and girls in private secondary schools across Lagos. It began about a decade ago with less than 10 schools.

Speaking after the matches, the CEO of AKOFA Sports, John Bimbo Faniran, who is the co-coordinator of the tourney, said that the outstanding quarter match will be decided tomorrow, while the second semi fnal match would come up at the weekend at the Rowe Park basketball court, Yaba, Lagos.

He added that  with the standard of play exhibited by all teams in this year’s tournament, the organisers expect a tourgh final match.

“We’re very impressed with the standard of play of most of the teams that are participating in this tourney and, more importantly, the impressive results being recorded by all the teams so far in the competition.

“The game can consolidate on the talents of these players if their parents can support them to improve on their game,” Faniran said.
