Nigerian League Update: MFM Coach Targets Promotion

Chief Coach of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, MFM, Football Club, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has expressed optimism that his team will gain promotion to the Nigeria Premier League at the end of the season.

Ilechukwu disclosed this after his team defeated City of David City of David, COD, United 2-0 in Week 10 of the Nigeria National League, NNL, Division One match played on Saturday at the Agege Stadium, Lagos.

Two goals in the first half from Sikiru Olatunbosun and Femi Oladejo was all MFM needed to overcome COD United to clinch the three point at stake.

Ilechukwu said having beaten COD United at home; his target now is to win their next away game against Abia Comets. The dark skinned coach said his team will not be relegated despite their position on the table and vowed to get a ticket to play in the Premier League at the end of the season.

“We are new in the league and we want to prove our critics wrong that we have what it takes to get promotion. Our victory today (Saturday) against COD United will spur my players to win their next match in Aba. We are going to Abia State with high expectations and we have promised our fans that we will come out victorious against Abia Comets,” he said.

COD Coach Olabode Awakan who was disappointed with the outcome of the match blamed his players for not playing to instructions. He disclosed that their chances to get promotion to the Premier League has suffered a temporary setback. He charged his players to go for victory in their subsequent matches.

“I did not expect to lose this match to MFM after our preparation. Our intention was to win  or at least play a draw, but we threw the three points away,” he said.

Awakan said their next home match against Gabros United at Onikan Stadium is a must-win for his team.
