Obey Our Laws, Govts Charge NYSC Members

The Ogun and Oyo state governments on Thursday charged new Batch “A” corps members to obey the laws of their host communities and remain a tool for national integration.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2013 Batch ‘A‘ corps member at the NYSC camp in Sagamu, Governor Ibikunle Amosun said the mandatory service year was a call for sacrifice, humility and patriotism.

Represented by Mr. Segun Adesanya, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development, Amosun urged corps members to render dedicated service.

“In a few months time, it will be 40 years of the establishment of the NYSC scheme.

“This scheme had been a veritable tool for national integration and clarion call for dedicated service to the nation.

“Thank God, the efforts of the founding fathers have continued to yield unquantifiable dividends in view of the fact that the scheme has become a rallying point in our country‘s quest for social development and peaceful co-existence,” he said.

Amosun also urged the corps members to give their best to the host communities they would be posted to after the three-week orientation programme.

Earlier, Mrs. Theresa Anosike, the NYSC State Coordinator, said 2,036 corps members were registered for the orientation exercise.

Anosike said the orientation programme was meant to instill leadership qualities, loyalty, determination and discipline in corps members.

She urged the corps members to prepare themselves toward the challenging task of nation building through selfless service.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Oyo State NYSC Governing Board, Mr Dapo Lam-Adesina, has urged corps members in Iseyin to render selfless service.

“Do away with all the negative tendencies that may want to pitch you against constituted authorities,” he said.

Lam-Adesina said the board would leave no stone unturned to make the service year a memorable one for corps members.

He also urged the youths to tap from the natural and human resources of the people in the state, adding that this would enrich them during the service year.

Earlier, the state Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Olanipekun Alao, said the corps members had exhibited a high degree of discipline in camp.

Alao said the good relationship had resulted in good management and successful coordination of camp activities.

Governor Abiola Ajimobi, who was represented by his deputy, Chief Moses Alake, assured youths of an enabling environment to realise their potentials.

Ajimobi advised the corps members to be part of the vanguard to drive the skills acquisition and entrepreneurial development programme of the state.
