DStv Men’s League: Warriors Ready For Battle In Atlantic Conference

Returnee Oluyole Warriors Basketball Club of Ibadan are not taking their return to the DSTV Premier League lightly as they recently recorded impressive victories in warm up matches against the University of Ibadan basketball team and Oluyole cadet side in readiness for the league jump-ball date which has been shifted by one week.

The Ibadan based Warriors who last played in the Nigeria top-flight league 14 years ago defeated University of Ibadan men team in back to back matches by 51-28 and 56-18 points.

The coach Oluyemi Abiodun-led team also defeated their team’s cadet side by 70-27 points to send a warning signal to other teams in the Atlantic Conference of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, organized DStv sponsored league.

Commenting after the matches, Warriors’ coach Abiodun said that the ‘Warriors’ are ready to take the stage by storm, adding that the team have been given the necessary support by the Commissioner for Sports in Oyo State, Dapo Lam-Adesina and the chairman of Oyo State Basketball Association, Babatunde Babalola.

He said: “My players are ready to make a bold statement in the league now that we have made a return to the top flight. I want to assure that  we are not going to disappoint our supporters who have been behind us for so many years.

“ The three warm-up games we played recently have helped us (the coaching crew) to assess the readiness of the players for the task ahead and I can assure you that we are prepared to compete in the ever tough Atlantic Conference.”

Oluyole Warriors will begin their league campaign against the defending champions, Royal Hoopers of Port Harcourt on 16 March, 2013 on their home court in Ibadan, Oyo state.
