Challenge Cup Cracker: Coaches Talk Tough

Chief Coach of Collins Edwin Football Club of Surulere,Uche Ugwu  has boasted that his team will give God’s Favour Football Club of Ajegunle a run for their money when both teams clash next Wednesday at the ongoing National Stadium Challenge Cup holding at the National Stadium Practice Pitch, Surulere, Lagos.

The 64 clubs competition is designed in a knockout format.

Ugwu  told P.M.NEWS Grassroots Soccer Guide that his team are fortified and ready to beat God’s Favour. He disclosed that his players are in high spirit and ready to shed blood in their opening match against God’s Favour.

“We are coming to the National Stadium Challenge Cup with high expectations and having won the last  C Woerman Cup in Enugu, I’m confident that the team will progress to the next round. God’s Favour should not think they can win this match. My players are in killer mood and it will be difficult for our opponents to upset us,” said Ugwu, who promised to win the National Stadium Challenge Cup.

Some  of the players Egwu planned to use against God’s Favour  are Chibuzor Osigwe, Sodiq Fatoyibo and Kabiru Wahab. Osigwe is red hot for the club now. According to Ugwe, Osigwe can score from any angle and God’s Favour will find it difficult to contain him.

Reacting to his opponent’s boasting, God’s Favour coach, Robinson Enuoma, said he will not trade words with Ugwe on  the pages of newspaper. Though he admitted that the match will be tough for both sides, he believes  the best team will progress to the next round.

God’s Favour will be banking on the prowess of Emmanuel King and Ejike Anyanwu who are lethal attackers.

“ I know that Collins Edwin FC are good side. They have won many competitions in the past, I’m glad that my players  King and Ejike are ready for the match. These two players are very athletic, skillful and creative on the ball and I expect them to give their best against Collins Edwin,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman Organising Committee of the competition,Semiu Popoola said competent referees will officiate all the matches. He urged club owners and coaches to channel their grievances to the Disciplinary Committee instead of taking the law into their hands.
