Golf: Guinness Cup Gathers Steam At Ikeja Golf Club

The 2013 edition of Guinness Golf Cup is currently going on at the 10-hole course of Ikeja Golf Club.

The amateur and professional tournament, which teed off since Monday will end on 16 March. P.M.NEWS Sports gathered that between tomorrow and Saturday, at least 200 members of the club will storm the green for their own category of the tourney.

According to schedules released by the organisers, professional competed in stroke play format on Tuesday with at least 12 top pro golfers who included Jamiu Oyebajo, Femi Johnson and Tunde Raimi from Ikeja Golf Club; Femi Olagbenro from Ikoyi Golf Club, among others participated.

Wednesday saw the turn of lady golfers in action, while Guinness’ Kitty holds today for members and non members of the club. The grand finale ceremony where prizes will be given out to various winners will hold on Saturday.

At the media briefing to herald the tournament, Mr. Sesan Sobowale, Director, Corporate Relations, Guinness Nigeria, represented by Mrs. Adrianne Nwagwu, Head of Sustainability and Responsibility said, “The Guinness Cup Golf Tournament, which has become an annual fixture on the sporting calendar in Nigeria, since inception in 1993, is one of the platforms Guinness Nigeria Plc explores to identify with good causes in the country.”

The sponsorship partnership between Guinness Plc and Ikeja Golf Club started in 1972 with the sponsorship the Harp on Harp Pro Am Golf Tournament between the club and Benin Golf Club. The company has been the sole sponsor of the club’s acclaimed Independence Day Tournament.
