LASU Female Librarian Charged With Fraud


The police at Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos Island, southwest Nigeria, have arrested Chineye Rose Osai attached to the Lagos University Library, Ojo, Lagos, for allegedly stealing the sum of N4,374,940 being proceeds from the sale of books belonging to the university’s lecturers.

She was alleged to have sold the books in the library and allegedly converted the proceeds to her personal use.

She was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on a two-count charge of felony.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Marcus Okon, told the court that the  accused was arrested following complaints by the management of the Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos that the accused, between October 2010 and December 2012 sold the books belonging to the lecturers of the university, and converted the proceeds to her personal use.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. H. O. Omisore, admitted her on bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum with proof of tax payment to the Lagos state government.

She adjourned the matter till 4 April, 2013 for mention.

The defendant was however moved to Kirikiri prison, Apapa, when she could not fulfil her bail conditions before the court closed for the day.
