Kano: 9 cops seriously wounded in ambush

P.M. NEWS has confirmed that the staccato of gun fire Wednesday morning at the Sharada Phase 111 axis of Kano, northwest Nigeria, which caused great panic, was as a result of an ambush by suspected terrorists of the Boko Haram sect of a police van.

Nine Mobile police officers wounded in the attack are currently receiving treatment at the Armed Forces Specialist Hospital in the state.

Pandemonium ensued at the Sabon Titi wing of the industrial area Wednesday morning prompting immediate closure of factories. The terrorists attacked the police truck with guns and Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the Mobile Police team who being moved to their various duty post were ambushed by terrorists who opened fire at their vehicle, resulting to a gun duel that left nine of the officers seriously injured.

Doctors are intensifying efforts to save the lives of the wounded police men.

A number of civilians also suffered bullet wounds, resulting from stray bullet during the cross-fire.

On Tuesday morning, a female Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Maimuna Yusuf, was killed by terrorists at the Farm Centre area of Kano city. No arrest has so far been made over the incident.

The spokesman of Kano state Police Command, ASP Magaji Majiya confirmed the incident.

He said a reinforcement of security operatives immediately cordoned off the scene of the incident, adding that security forces are currently on the trail of the militants.

Former Lagos state Governor and leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande who were in Kano on a commiseration visit to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, accompanied Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso to visit the wounded police officers at the Armed Forces Specialist Hospital.
