Flying Eagles’ striker Kayode Olanrewaju will miss the team’s last Group B match against DR Congo at the on-going African Youth Championship (AYC) in Algeria.

A statement on Thursday in Abuja by the team’s spokesman, Samm Audu, said Kayode was suspended from the encounter because he already had two bookings in the championship.

The Flying Eagles, Nigeria’s under-20 men football team, will face DR Congo in Oran on Saturday.

The team lost 0-1 to Mali in their first match and defeated Gabon 1-0 in their second match.

Kayode was booked by Tunisian referee Youssef Essreyaryi during the Nigeria/Gabon match for ignoring his whistle by putting the ball into the net after he was adjudged to be offside.

He was also booked in the opening game against Mali.

Kayode’s likely replacements are Alhaji Gero, who was the team’s joint leading scorer in the qualifiers with four goals and Umar Aminu, who plays as a second striker.

The Flying Eagles, who are the competition’s defending champions, need only a draw against DR Congo to reach the semi-finals.

The semi-final ticket will give the team automatic qualification for the U-20 FIFA World Cup in Turkey in June.
