2 remanded in jail for raping woman in police cell

Two men, Enamuotor Akpevwe (21) and Ugbede Obruche (20), have been remanded in prison custody by a Magistrate Court in Abraka, Delta State, for allegedly raping a married woman while in police custody.

The suspects were arraigned on a two count charge of felony and rape.

They allegedly committed the offence on 26 February at Abraka Police station.

When the case came up for mentioning, the trial Magistrate, Mr. J. D. Epete, ordered the suspects to be remanded at the Federal Prisons, Sapele, while hearing on the case has been fixed for the 3rd May, 2013.

Meanwhile, it was reliably gathered that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 5, Alhaji Hamisu Argungu, has ordered an orderly room trial of the policemen on duty on the fateful day.

The rape victim, who petitioned the Zone 5 AIG office in Benin through her Counsel, Barr. Ejomasuvwe Efe, alleged she was locked in a police cell by the police, when the two men raped her without the policemen on duty protecting her, despite her cry for help.
