Kidnappers Free Woman Leader

Kidnappers have freed Abia State Women leader in Answarudeen area of Badagry, Lagos State, southwest Nigerian, after collecting some ransom.

According to a family member who spoke to this reporter when he visited the home of the victim, the popular woman leader, Mrs Nneka Olu, was abducted at gun point at the gate of her home as she was about driving in, Tuesday evening in her ash colour Nissan Xterra SUV by at least four young men who seemed to have been waiting for her.

She said no one knew that Nneka had been taken away until they started calling her husband, a customs officer who is said to be on posting to Sokoto State, and other family members.

“We did not want to involve the police or other security agencies because they threatened to kill her if we did,” she said.

She was taken to Iya Fin area near Badagry.

“Their initial demand was the sum of N1 million which, after much plea from us, we settled for N200,000. They instructed that the money be brought to Iya Fin strictly by a woman. We had no choice than to comply, especially since the husband is not around but he gave his support. We had to look for means to raise the money. ”

“When our sister took the money according to their directives, along the bush track, there was an Okada rider who rode past her about three times to monitor if there were people accompanying her. She was then ordered to drop the bag containing the money by the Okada rider who immediately disappeared with it into the bush and Nneka was let go therafter.”

According to Nneka, she was not molested but they asked her not to bother about her car because she will never see it again.

Sympathisers trooped to her house to commiserate with her. But she was not allowed to speak to anyone.

Reacting to the incident,, Chief Paul Okorie, the Vice-President of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo Lagos State, lamented the poor security situation in the country.

According to him, Badagry was a peaceful enviroment until now that criminals are kidnapping people.
