Olayinka’s Death: Falana Condoles With Fayemi

Funmi Olayinka(1960-2013): buried

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has expressed deep condolences with the Governor of Ekiti state, Dr Kayode Fayemi on the sudden death of the Deputy Governor of the state, Mrs Funmilayo Olayinka.

Falana, who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, also commiserated with the entire people of Ekiti state over the death of  Mrs Olayinka, who he described as “an Omoluabi par excellence”.

In a statement by the Lagos state lawyer, he praised the courage and strength of the late Deputy Governor in the battle against cancer, adding that she emerged a respected political leader through dint of hard work and  unalloyed loyalty to principles.

“In a society where women are completely  relegated to the backgroud by culture, law  and religion,  the late Mrs Olayinka emerged a respected political leader through dint of hard work, sheer courage, unrelenting determination and  unalloyed loyalty to principles. Thus, in the space of three years she and your wife (Comrade Bisi) had encouraged and influenced our young women to discard prejudices and compete with their male counterparts on equal the basis of equality of opportunities.”

Falana described the late Deputy Governor as firm, gentle, tough, friendly but strict, easy going person, who at all times comported herself with dignity, grace and sartorial elegance.

He particularly praised the woman for dumping a lucrative banking job to join Dr Fayemi as deputy and waiting patiently for the courts to declare them victorious at the polls.

Falana prayed God to give the late Deputy Governor’s husband and family, Ekiti State and Dr Fayemi the fortitude to bear the untimely death of “Omo Ayiye”, Mrs Adunni Funmilayo Olayinka.
