Kareem Shines At Ademiluyi Tennis Tourney

Baaqi Kareem was a delight to watch when he defeated his opponent, Umar Kareem 2-1 to emerge the champion in the 9th edition of U-16 Late Prince Joseph Adewunmi Ademiluyi Tennis Tournament.

The weeklong tournament is sponsored by Joseph Adewunmi Ademiluyi Tennis Foundation in remembrance of Prince Joseph Ademiluyi who died about 18 years ago.

In the final of  U-16 boys category which was decided on Saturday at the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja, Lagos. Baaqi defeated his opponent, Umar 7-5,5-7,7-3 in the best of three to emerge the winner.

Shortly after the match, Baaqi told P.M. NEWS Sports that the victory was well deserved. He admitted that his opponent gave him a tough time but thanked goodness that he eventually came out victorious.

“I must confess that the encounter was keenly contested for both players. I won the game because I was more determined and focused than my opponent. I wish to defend my title next year,” he said.

In the junior girls’ category, Ololade Holmes defeated Estee Nwanna 10-7 while U-12 category, Akande Kareem beat Chimela Apkata 10-3 to emerge the winner.

Prince Adeyimika Ademiluyi, a member of the late Joseph Adewunmi Ademiluyi’s family said he was impressed with the turnout of spectators, adding that  the tournament was organised to remember his uncle, who had passion for tennis when he was alive.
