Lagos Table Tennis Stars Shine At Trials

Table Tennis players from Lagos topped the lists of selected ping pongers to be invited to camp by Nigeria Deaf Table Tennis Association ahead of the Deaflympic Games to be held in Bulgaria from 24 July to 4 August this year.

Three male players from Lagos was selected out of the eight choosing at the end of a three day trials conducted in Lagos last week. Delta State produced three, while Ondo and Rivers State each player.

In the female category, five players from Lagos made the list, while Delta and Rivers State produced one and two respectively.

According to the list made available by the association at the weekend, the selected players in the men’s singles are Adeniran Ismaila (Delta), Odupitan Adetayo (Delta), Okwuomadu Uguomadu (Delta), Awosanya Babatunde (Lagos), Olowoniyi Sunday (Ondo), Nwokolobia Peters (Lagos), Ibiofori Aminuten (Rivers) and John Ezekwelu (Lagos).

In the women’s singles are Tokosi Munirat (Lagos), Sherifat Bakare (Delta), Issa Bilikisu Aduni (Lagos), Animashaun Ganiyat (Lagos), Daniel Promise (Rivers), Jimoh Idayat (Lagos), Much Uche (Rivers) and Gege Yetunde (Lagos).

Technical Director/Coach of the association, Mukaila Olaoye expressed his delight with the performance of the players at the trials.

“To be candid, I’m really delighted with the way the trials were conducted. I strongly believe that the players selected will prove their worth,” he said.

P.M.NEWS Sports gathered that the selected players will soon resume camping in Ibadan, Oyo State after which they will be pruned to 4 men and 4 women for the championship in Bulgaria.
