With barely 48 hours to the commencement of the 34th Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Senior Tennis Open, some of the players have expressed readiness to play in the first tournament of 2013.

One of the players, Clifford Enosoregbe, said he had been preparing for the tourney in the last few months, adding that he couldn’t wait to see the CBN Open serve off on Thursday

“This is a country where things happen without notice. So, I wasn’t surprised to hear that the CBN Open will start this week. I’m ready for the tournament because I’ve been preparing on my own, I don’t know of other players,” said Clifford who slumped during the 2011 edition of the tournament at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

All Africa Games 2003 Men’s Singles gold medalist, Taiwo Owolabi, said he would have to intensify training before the serve off date as he is determined to make a mark in this year’s championship.

He said: “Tennis is all I do and I train every day. With the date set for Thursday, I’ll have to train in the morning and evening to be in top form for the competition.”

Nigeria’s number three female player, Christie Agugbom, said that notification for the serve off date was too sudden, adding that this could affect the players’ preparations.

“I’ve not really prepared much for this tournament because the notification was too sudden. How will players prepare adequately for a championship in less than a week? I will be in Lagos to play to the best of my ability,” she said from her base in Imo State.
