Ekiti Deputy Gov, Olayinka Begins Final Journey

Right Revd. Dr Peter Awelewa Adebiyi, the Lord Bishop, Diocese of Lagos West of the Anglican Church told dignitaries from all walks of life who converged on the Anglican Church of Ascension, Opebi, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, to pay their last respects to the late Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Chief (Mrs) Olufunmi Olayinka, and to emulate her good deeds while she was alive.

The officiating priest gave the advice Wednesday at the Commendation Service held for the late Olayinka, during which he prayed that God should grant her eternal rest.

Present at the occasion were her husband, children, family members, the deputy governor of Lagos State, Orelope Adejoke Adefulire, former governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, wife of the governor of Ekiti State, Bisi Fayemi, Senator Remi Tinubu, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Femi Falana, wife of the governor of Oyo State, Florence Ajimobi, members of the National and State Assembly, traditional rulers from Ekiti state, among others.

The funeral procession consequently proceeded from Lagos to Ekiti State where Olayinka will be buried Friday.

A candle light procession would be held in her honour at Fajuyi Park, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, later today.

On Thursday, 25 April, a special Exco Session, will hold in her honour at the Exco Chambers, and a House of Assembly Special Sitting while her Lying-In-State, Tribute and Christian Wake will come up afterward between 12 noon and 5p.m. respectively.

Already, men are working day and night to prepare a befitting final resting place for the late deputy governor.

Olayinka died on Saturday, 6 April,  2013, after a prolonged battle with cancer.
