Kebbi state top civil servant docked for fraud

A Director with the Kebbi state, Ministry of Finance, Yahyah Saidu Andarai and one Farouk Abubarka Uduli, were today arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, before an Ikeja High Court for allegedly stealing N64million belonging to Coscharis Motors Ltd.

The suspects and others at large who were docked before Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo, are facing a 27 count charge of conspiracy , fraud and stealing.

The defendants were alleged to have converted the money being the proceed for the sales of AX motorcycles belonging to Coscharis Motors

The money was allegedly entrusted to them by Jega National Union Local Government Employees of Kebbi state.

While the second defendant, was only charged with two count charge, the first defendant was charged with 27 count charge.

The defendants however pleaded not guilty to the 27 count charge preferred against them.

The EFCC, counsel Oluwabumi Abosede, said that the defendants had committed the said offence between 26 August, 2009 and 2 August, 2012, in MazaMaza area of Lagos.

She said that sometime on August 2010, the first defendant stole 20 units of Ax Motorcycle valued at N2.2million

The anti- graft agency said that on 26 of August 2009, with intent to defraud, Andarai, converted into his use the sum of N17million entrusted to him by the Jega National Union of Local Government Employees of Kebbi state.

According to the EFCC, the offences committed by the defendants are contrary to section 309 Cap 2 laws of Lagos state.

Justice Onigbanjo, however granted the two defendants bail in the sum of N2million, with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the matter to 20 November, 2013 for trial.
