The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has slammed the PDP for seeking to disparage and distract Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, at a time the party (PDP) itself is in dire need of attention to prevent it from imploding.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party described the PDP as a hypocrite which should first remove the log from its own eye before removing the speck from its neighbour’s eye.
”PDP is behaving like the Roman Empire Nero who fiddled while Rome burned. A ruling party bugged down with a monumental internal crisis that has now torn its tattered umbrella to shreds, failure of governance at the centre, killing of innocent Nigerians in Baga and widespread insecurity in the land is wasting the time it doesn’t have to peddle lies against an acknowledged state builder like Oshiomhole,” it said.
ACN described the PDP’s allegation of rigging in Edo State’s council polls as illogical, saying if the PDP could not win election in any council during the last governorship poll in the state, despite being in control of the paraphernalia of state power, including the police, it should not have expected any miracle in the council elections.
”In any case, what has the PDP done between the time of the governorship election, in which it received a shellacking, and the council polls to convince the good people of Edo State to vote for it? Where was the PDP when Gov. Oshiomhole was leading the campaign of his party across the state, even when he knows that the people of Edo have reposed so much trust in his administration because of his sterling performance?
”It is instructive that while the Comrade-Governor did not take the people of Edo for granted, hence he campaigned vigorously ahead of the council polls, a party without pedigree like the PDP was either addressing a press conference
in Abuja or crying wolf. It therefore beat’s our imagination how the party expected to have won. If the council polls were held 10 times, the PDP will be humiliated 10 times,” the party said.
It described as sheer mudslinging the allegation that Gov. Oshiomhole ”begged” to join the PDP, but said even if that was true, it shows the lack of vision and mission of the PDP that it rejected such a visionary.
”Sorry PDP. The stone that your builders rejected has become the cornerstone, hence your house of sand is now collapsing like a pack of cards,” ACN said.
