Cricket: U-19 Players Fight For World Cup Shirts

•NCF’s GM, Wiltshere

Players of the Nigeria’s U-19 national cricket team are currently in camp fighting for shirts to represent Nigeria in the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifying Championship scheduled for Kampala, Uganda from 25-29 May.

After a four-day trial, the Nigeria Cricket Federation, NCF, last Friday selected 18 players for a close camp. The players were selected from 33 who were on trials between 29 April and 2 May at the University of Lagos Cricket pitch in Akoka.

“The first phase of our four-day trial enabled us to select the best 18 male players,” The General Manager of the NCF, George Wiltshire, said.

“The second phase which started on Friday will end on 17 May at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) Cricket Oval, Lagos. I’m happy to say that the players were serious with the business in the camp as they are jostling to make the team for the World Cup qualifier.

“A total of 14 male players will be finally selected for the qualifiers,’’ Wiltshire added.

According to the Chief Operating Officer, COO, of the NCF, Wiltshire, the players in camp include Adedeji Sesan-Ogun, Adiamo Mojeed-Ogun, Ajeku Daniel-Ogun, Obisesan Afeez-Ogun, Adebiyi Usman-Ogun, Ogunbayo Dayo-Ogun, Adu Bimbo-Ogun, Awosanmi Kunle-Lagos, Duru Kelechi, Emmanuel Samson and Oyenuga Niyi. Others are Alfred Tay, Akachukwu Chima, Adams Rasaq, Shina Awodele, Okojaja Henry, Gim Daniel-Kaduna and Okpe Isacc.
