2 Trigger-Happy Cops Dismissed

Two policemen who allegedly killed two men in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, have been dismissed and charged before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for murder.

The accused, Adejoh John, 31, and Abbey Adekunle, 33, allegedly killed two persons, Dele Oroja and Muyideen Fatai at various locations in Lagos.

Before they were dismissed from the police, John and Adekunle served at Ebute Meta and Meiran divisions, respectively.

They were arraigned before the Ebute-Meta Magistrates’ Court Tuesday on a count charge of unlawfully killing the victims in their divisions in Lagos.

In the separate charge, John was alleged to have shot dead Muyideen Fatai at Okobaba area in Ebute-Meta, while Adekunle allegedly murdered Dele Oroja at Meiran in Lagos.

According to the police, John killed Fatai with his AK47 rifle with registration number 6415, while Adekunle murdered Oroja with his AK47 rifle with registration number 4611.

Before their arraignment, the accused were detained at the Special Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, for investigation.

They were found culpable by the police authorities and summarily dismissed from the police.

Their pleas were not taken Tuesday when they were arraigned in court and the magistrate ordered that they should be remanded at the Ikoyi Prison, Lagos, pending the advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution on the matter.
