24-hour curfew slammed on Maiduguri

Nigeria’s military on Saturday imposed a round-the-clock curfew in parts of Maiduguri, the home base of Boko Haram Islamists, as a massive offensive against the insurgents presses on across the region.

“In order to sustain special operations in the face of recent Boko Haram attacks, (a) 24-hour curfew is hereby imposed in the following wards” of Maiduguri, a military statement said, listing 12 neighbourhoods considered Boko Haram strongholds.

The areas affected, according to a statement by Lt.Col. Sagir Musa of the Joint Task Force are: Gamboru, Mairi Kuwait,Bakin Kogi,Kasuwan Shanu,Ruwan Zafi,202 Quarters, Dikwa Quarters, Low-Cost Sinimari, 505 Housing Estate, Chad Basin Area, 303 Housing Estate and Baga road areas.

Musa, the JTF spokesman appealed to the general public to continue to cooperate with the security agencies by providing credible and timely information.
