NTF Begins Zonal Championships


In its quest to further develop tennis in the country, the Nigeria Tennis Federation, NTF will commence Zonal Championships  tomorrow.

This was disclosed to P.M.NEWS Tennis Special by the President of NTF, Engr. Sani Ndanusa Monday.

Ndanusa said that the championships will start from the Ogun Zone as he believes that it will enable help sensitise tennis players from each zone in the country.

According to him: “People have been clamouring for championships but there have been limited sponsorship so we have decided to go through the zones to get championships for the players.”

“I really want to appreciate the representative of Ogun Zone, Arch. Adeleke Bada for accepting to flag off the Zonal Championships. We’ll be starting tomorrow at the Abeokuta Club in Ogun State and then move to other Zones in the country” he added.

In a related development, Ndanusa said that the rested New Era Championship, sponsored by wife of former Governor of Lagos State, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will be reinstated. “The NTF was overwhelmed by the performance of the wheelchair tennis players at the inaugural CBN Open for them so we’ve decided to push further in order to get tournaments for the players.”

“We have been speaking with the Directorate of New Era to see how we can fix a date for the Championship and as soon as we get that, we shall make it public” he opined.
