After suffering a 2-0 loss to Mexico in their group opener, Nigeria’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, could only manage a 1-1 draw in their second outing against Belgium at the Toulon Invitational tournament on Sunday.
The Flying Eagles even had to come from behind to secure their first point at the Toulon tournament which is been used to prepare the Nigerian team for the FIFA U-20 World Cup starting later this month in Turkey.
Belgium after losing their first two games against Brazil and Portugal was fired up for Sunday’s clash against the Flying Eagles and deservedly got first on the score sheet off a penalty kick in the first half.
Enugu Rangers striker Alhaji Gero brought the Flying Eagles back on level terms with his 43rd minute equaliser.
Both teams huffed and puffed as they try to record their first win in France but that was not to be as they ended sharing the spoils and thus consign themselves to the base of their group.
Having failed the Mexico test, and not convincing enough against Belgium, the Flying Eagles will need to rev their game drastically for their next game which is against former world champions Brazil.
