A jealous husband, Ihenacho Nkem, has beaten his wife, Regina, to death during a fight over suspicion she was dating another man.
The 34-year old Ihenacho allegedly grabbed Regina, 30, and rained several blows on her for returning late and the woman became unconscious, slumped and died.
The incident happened at their residence, 3, Calvary Close, Mebano Shashi, in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.
He is now facing a murder charge before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos under the Criminal Code.
P.M.NEWS gathered that Abia State-born Ihenacho married Regina some years ago and they have three children.
Trouble started when she started coming back home late and this gave rise to suspicion by Ihenacho that she had another man she was dating.
On the day the incident happened, Regina allegedly came back around 11 p.m. and this resulted in exchange of words and in the process Ihenacho grabbed her and rained blows on her which resulted in her death.
P.M.NEWS gathered that when the woman fell down, Ihenacho raised an alarm and started calling neighbours for help.
When she was rushed to a hospital, she was already dead and doctors only confirmed it.
There was a twist after Regina died as it was alleged that Ihenacho tried to conceal the matter but it was frustrated by the neighbors who informed police about what happened.
He was subsequently arrested and the matter was transferred to SCID, Panti, Yaba for further investigation.
After investigation, the police charged Ihenacho to court with murder.
When he was arraigned, his plea was not taken. Rather, the presiding Magistrate, Mr O. O. Olatunji ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison custody and ordered that his file should be duplicated and sent to DPP for advice.
The matter has been adjourned till 17 July, 2013.
