Amoo Targets Continental Ticket At Sunshine

Former assistant coach of the Super Eagles, Fatai Amoo has promised to win a continental ticket for Sunshine Football Club of Akure at the end of the 2012/13 Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL season.

Amoo said this after he was unveiled on Monday in Akure as the new Technical Adviser of Sunshine FC to replace sacked coach, Samuel Abimbola in a brief ceremony supervised by the team’s technical committee head, Akin Akinbobola.

Amoo said that winning a continental ticket is achievable considering the 12th position the Akure-based club occupy on the league table. Amoo, who just returned from USA, said he is coming to Sunshine to turn things around and ensure that the club feature in next season’s CAF continental club tourneys.

“I am very happy to return to Sunshine FC after years I left the club. I see this new job as a challenge and I am confident that the club will grab one of the continental tickets at the end of the season,” he said.

Amoo admitted that the new role is challenging but assured he is up to the task.

“This is home-coming for me. I hope to surpass my previous achievements at Sunshine. When I was in the club then, I was able to win the WAFU Cup for the team and they’ve progressed beyond that level in the years gone by.

“As I said before it’s a daunting task but not insurmountable. It’s a good challenge for a side like Sunshine Stars to be demanding for a ticket at the continent.

“They’ve not severally been there but have actually done well, too. So I welcome the mandate with both hands and assure everybody that I’m equal to the task,” he said.

Amoo’s first assignment will be on Thursday against Nasarawa United at the Akure Township Stadium in NPFL Matchday 16.

Meanwhile stand –in coach, Napoleon Aluma was confirmed as the new coach of Sunshine while the assistant coaches will be named in due course.
