Jose Mourinho is set to free up money for the massive transfer splurge planned to bring in the five players that will land him a treble trophy haul, by offering up Fernando Torres and Juan Mata for sale.
The Portuguese coach has wasted no time in getting down to work, and one of his first moves will directly affect the future of the two Spanish stars.
According to a Spanish sports station, Radio MARCA, the London club has put the Spanish pair up for sale.
If the reports are to believed, the ‘Special One’ has asked Chelsea chairman Roman Abramovich to listen to offers for Mata and Torres as he looks to raise funds for a shopping spree.
Chelsea has been weighing up swoops for Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic over the last few days, and the arrival of either or both could make it a case of too many cooks in the Blues’ forward line.
While the sale of Torres is expected, many will wonder at the rationale behind off loading Mata, one of the best players for Chelsea last season.
