Delta Police Intercept 5 Suspected Robbers

Five suspected robbers have been intercepted by the Delta State Police Command at the Asaba bridge head of the Onitsha bridge.

The Command also recovered a Toyota Highlander SUV, with registration number Delta – AT 696 ASB, with two suspects who allegedly snatched the vehicle from its owner also arrested.

According to the State Police Commissioner, Ikechukwu Aduba, at about 1230 hours on 4 June, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of the Bridge Head Police station, Asaba, received information that some suspected armed robbers/kidnappers had crossed from Onitsha to Asaba with the intent to kidnap or rob a certain undisclosed person of the sum of N40 million being proceeds of land sales.

Based on the information, detectives from the Command swung into action and successfully arrested five suspects at Agbogidi motor park close to the bridge head.

Aduba gave the names of the five suspects as Emeka Patrick, Uchena Okara, Anthony Eleogoregwu, Chukwu Ebuka and Ezechukwu Elekwe.

Items recovered from the suspects include one locally made short gun and one battle axe.

In a related development, two suspected car snatchers, Chinemere Moses and Danlami Kadiri were also arrested at the Onitsha bridge head.

One of the suspects, Chinemere Moses, who was arrested with a Toyota Highlander SUV with registration number Delta – AT 696 ASB, is suspected to have snatched the vehicle which was earlier reported snatched at Okpanam road, Asaba.

The other suspect, Kadiri, was later arrested and a Volkswagen Vento with registration number AA 273 XA, which was allegedly used to block the owner of the SUV, was recovered from him.

The Police Commissioner confirmed that all the arrested suspects are helping the police to “tidy up investigation,” while efforts are being intensified to arrest two fleeing suspects.
