The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) at the weekend inaugurated a three-man committee to ensure that the Nigerian male 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams qualify for the IAAF World Championships in Moscow.
Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama, the Technical Director of the AFN, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the committee was set-up to ensure that Nigerian athletes presently in Warri qualify for the competition.
He gave the names of the committee members as Gabriel Okon, Brown Ebewele and Paul Obodochina, saying that Ebewele had been moved from the junior camp in Port Harcourt to Warri, because of the new assignment.
“The three men have been mandated to ensure that our male 4x100m and 4x400m relay team get qualification for the World Championships.
“For this reason, Ebewele, who was the camp commandant for the junior camp in Port Harcourt, has been told to move to Warri immediately, where the male team are currently training.
Nesiama, however, noted that the AFN believed in the ability of the trio to improve the standard of the athletes, saying that with adequate training, the athletes can qualify.
