Ogenyi Onazi is a major doubt for Nigeria at the FIFA Confederations Cup following a knee injury in a World Cup qualifier against Namibia.
Super Eagles co-ordinator Emmanuel Attah disclosed that the Jos-born star is unlikely to play a part for the Eagles at the competition, which starts on Saturday.
“Onazi is doubtful for the Confederations Cup because he sustained an injury in the game against Namibia. It looks bad, but let’s wait and see,” Attah told a radio station in Lagos.
The Lazio midfielder has been a revelation since joining the Super Eagles and made himself an important figure in the midfield of the team along with Chelsea star Mikel Obi and Sunday Mba. He made his Eagles debut against Liberia in Calabar last year.
He has represented Nigeria at U17 and U20 levels.
Lately he has been linked with a move to the English Premier League after his breakthrough season with Lazio in the Italian Serie A.
