2 Nigerian soldiers killed by gunmen

In a fresh attack, gunmen have killed two soldiers and at least three villagers at Kwasakwasa village at Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna State, northwest Nigeria.

Assistant Director , Army Public Relations , Ist Mechanized Division, Kaduna who confirmed the incident to newsmen Thursday said there was a fierce battle between the assailants and the security , when they attacked the village but in the end some of the assailants were killed

“As they opened fire on our soldiers , they retaliated immediately, though we lost two of our men in the attack”. Colonel Kukashika stated.

Information gathered from one of villagers via phone revealed that the gunmen stormed the village early hours of Thursday but met stiff resistance from security men that were on alert.

However, he further hinted that the armed gunmen who appeared to be on a “mission to kill” opened fire at security men and anyone seen around the village area.

When P.M.News contacted Kaduna Police Commissioner, Olufemi Adenaike to confirm the number of civilian casualties , he said the police are trying to restore peace in the area for now , but promised to disclose the total number of casualties as soon as he gets details from the policemen drafted to the area known for notorious armed robbery attacks over the past ten years.
