Glo P/League: Sponsor Urges Team To Sustain Momentum

As week 19 matches in the Glo Premier League hold this weekend, signaling the end of the first stanza of the 38-week season, official sponsor, Globacom has  called on the stakeholders of the league to sustain and enhance the tempo already attained by the ongoing season.

The teams will proceed on a two-week recess till July 3 to enable the players take some rest.

The leading telecommunications operator noted in a statement in Lagos on Thursday that the interest of Nigerians in the league had increased since Globacom resumed the sponsorship of the league this season.

“We are impressed with the momentum the League Management Company has created and wish to appeal to all stakeholders to sustain the tempo by coming out in large to numbers to cheer the teams at the various stadiums,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, one of the star matches of Week 19 will come up in Aba on Sunday, where Enyimba will host Heartland in a crowd-pulling oriental derby.

Another derby will take place in Yenagoa between Nembe City of Bayelsa and their Niger Delta neighbours, Sharks of Port-Harcourt while Northern rivalry will be rekindled in Maiduguri, when El Kanemi Warriors host Kano Pillars.

In other fixtures, resurgent Nasarawa United will host continental campaigners, Rangers while Sunshine stars of Akure will be guests to Warri Wolves at Warri City Stadium.

Theses matches will clearly determine the regional supremacy among the clubs.

Kaduna United will entertain soar-away ABS of Ilorin at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna while 3SC of Ibadan will be away to Kwara United at the Ilorin Township Stadium as Dolphins host Bayelsa United in another Niger Delta duel.

Gombe United will host beleaguered Akwa United who have just been sanctioned by the League Management Company after crowd trouble in their Week 17 clash at home with Warri Wolves while Lobi Stars, who are serving eight games without home spectators will be at home to Wikki Tourist at Katsina Ala.
