IAAF World Championships: Toblow Commends AFN

Renowned athletics coach, Tobias Igwe, has commended the country’s preparation for the 2013 International Association of Athletics Federations, IAAF World Athletics Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine, saying it was geared towards a successful outing.

Igwe gave the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN Monday in Lagos.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN had on 12 May, invited 40 athletes to camp in Benin to prepare for the championships.

Igwe told NAN that the athletes would be further evaluated at the All Nigeria/Cross River Athletics Championships in Calabar on 19 June.

“We have seen improvement from the athletes; preparation is in top gear to ensure that we redeem our image at these championships, we have worked hard and we expect good results.

“We intend to use the All Nigeria/Cross River Athletics Meet in Calabar to evaluate ourselves and work on areas in which we are lagging behind,’’ he said.

Igwe urged the athletes to act on their coaches’ instructions to ensure a successful outing in Donetsk.

“If they follow instructions, I believe they will go far. I just want to encourage them to make the country proud’’.

NAN reports that the World Championships is scheduled to hold from 10-14 July.
