Court Remands Driver For Reckless Driving

Mr. Sunday Ani, a commuter bus driver was Monday remanded in prison custody by an Oredo Chief Magistrate’s Court in Benin City, for eight days for dangerous driving.

Ani was also accused of causing damage to two patrol vehicles belonging to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) along Benin-Ore road on 19 June, 2013.

The court heard that the driver, while driving his Toyota Hiace bus with registration number XA 553 GBA, on the Benin–Ore road, dangerously drove his vehicle and in an attempt to evade arrest by the operatives of the FRSC, hit and caused some damage to the patrol vehicles.

The Presiding Magistrate, Fen Igbinosa, who condemned the dangerous conduct of the driver, observed that irresponsible drivers like Ani should be made to face the full wrath of the law for their anti-safety and anti-social behaviour while on the wheel.

He therefore ordered that Ani be remanded in prison custody till 1 July, 2013 when the case will come up for mention.
