Tennis: Ovia Academy To Debut October

Veteran tennis player, Sunday Igbinovia, has disclosed that his tennis Academy will be officially opened in October this year.

Igbinovia who spoke with P.M.NEWS Tennis Special, said that the Academy ought to have opened  last year but he had been hampered by a couple of challenges.

He, however promised to ensure that everything works out well for him before October so that his much-anticipated dream of helping young minds hone their skills will be actualised.

“The Academy was billed to open this July but due to some challenges from the arena where we’ll be uaing for it, it has not kicked off yet. But I want to assure you that all the necessary arrangement will be sorted out before October. Then, we’ll be able to float the academy. We intend to use the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, it’s a familiar terrain and I’m sure we’ll get the place fixed before October, all things being equal” he offered.

The older sibling of Jonathan Igbinovia also told P.M.NEWS Tennis Special that he’ll be embarking on a two-month course in the United States of America to enable him sharpen his skills on how the game is played, especially as it concerns young and upcoming players and make him a better coach before the debut of his project.

According to him: “I’ll be in the US for the next two months for a course, to give me a better understanding of the game and the new tricks in the game, especially for the young ones. By the time I return, I should have been better equipped to start the academy on a good footing.”

On how he intends to get sponsors for the Academy, the former Davis Cup player said: “I’ll have to start first before going to meet anybody for sponsorship. When I have something on ground, I’ll be able to show anybody that wants to help that I have something that they can work on.”
