Amosun Set For Breaking Of Fast With Ogun Muslims
Governor Ibikunle Amosun of the western Nigerian state of Ogun will on Saturday hosts Muslims in the state at a ceremony to break fast. The yearly ceremony, called Iftar, takes place during the Ramadan.
State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Yussuph Olaniyonu said the event will commence by 4:00pm and hold at the Arcade Ground in the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
“The breaking of fast will be headlined by a lecture to be delivered by Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, Secretary General of the Nigeria Supreme Council on Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) on the topic: “The Principles, the
Myths, the Politics and the Sciences of Moon Sighting in Nigeria”, Olaniyonu said.
Other activities lined up for the day include Quranic recitation, Islamic praise-singing in honour of the
Holy Prophet Muhammed (Modiu) and prayer session.
“All Muslims are invited to the breaking of the fast as vehicles will be available at strategic stations across the State to convey people to the venue at no cost”, Olaniyonu said.
At a smaller iftar with journalists, Governor Amosun called for objective reporting of his administration, saying such would assist in giving a true reflection of his mission to rebuild in the minds of the outside world.
Amosun, at the ceremony at the Government House,Oke Igbein, Abeokuta, added that all strata of the human endeavour that needed government attention would be given a face-lift before the end of administration.
The governor told the newsmen that, “as a crucial realm, your role is as well important and crucial to peace and development in the society, so I want to call for objective reporting of our government activities. Tell it as it is, so that the people in and outside the State can have
true assessment of our administration”,Amosun pleaded.
