Agege Stadium Agog For Deaf School Athletics Tourney

Deaf sports athletes storm Agege Stadium today as Lagos State Deaf Sports Association holds a two-day Deaf School Athletics Competition.

Acting chairman of the association, Reverend Samuel Ikpea said the event is organised to develop deaf sports at the grassroots.

He said the association is putting the tournament together in line with the vision of Lagos State government to develop sports at the grassroots and to discover talents to represent the state in the future as well as to give the disable athletes the opportunity to exercise their God-given talent in sports.

It was gathered that at least 30  deaf schools in Lagos State both primary and secondary are expected to take part in the tournament that will end tomorrow.

The competition is facilitated by the Ministry of Sports, Youth and Social Development and the Grassroots Sports Development Office. It is also supported by Charvet Nigeria Ltd, a power horse energy drink company.

“We are organising this quarterly tourney to keep these athletes busy and to give the disabled stars a sense of belonging in the society. We want sports lovers to come out to watch these wonderful boys and girls at the stadium,” said Ikpea.
