Youth Games: Cross River Athletes In Closed Camp

Jude Amadi, Director of Sports, Cross River Sports Commission said that the state athletes for the U-17 National Youth Games would go into closed camp on 29 July.

The Youth Games scheduled for September in Abjua and it will feature 14 sports.

Amadi told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN in Lagos that athletes were currently in an open camp where they would be screened to be a part of the closed camp.

He said that the number of athletes for the closed camp was yet to be determined, adding that the closed camp would also involve other screening processes.

“We are currently running an open camp where all interested athletes showcase their skills.

“On Monday, 29, July successful athletes will be in closed camp, after which they will undergo other screening processes that will eventually determine whether they will represent the state in the youth games,” he said.

The sports director disclosed that the state would participate in all the events.Amadi commended the National Sports Commission (NSC) for the initiative, saying that it would give youths a level playing ground.

He said that unlike the National Sports Festival (NSF) where there was no age limit, the Youth

Games would allow participants to exhibit their talents.

“The U-17 Games is a good development that will allow those within the age limit to have a level playing ground to showcase their talents and skills.

“Unlike the Sports Festival that has no age limit and allows elite athletes to participate,” he said.
