Fatimah Abdulkareem, National Treasurer, Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) and the Oyo State Chairman of the union, Mr. Gbenga Opadotun who were injured in a a ghastly accident on Ilesa-Ibadan Expressway have been moved from Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital, Osogbo to University College Hospital (UCH).

They were moved to UCH on the orders of Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

The injured victims were received at the Accident and Emergency Unit of UCH Saturday.

The Chief of Staff to the Oyo State Governor, Dr. Adeolu Akande and Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Pastor Taiwo Otegbeye pledged that the state government would foot the bill of the victims in UCH.

They described the incident as very pathetic stressing that the government has urged the management of UCH to try its best in ensuring that the two NUJ officials in their care are given the best treatment.

In another development, the NUJ President, Mohammed Garba paid a condolence visit to the family of Mr. Tunde Oluwanike, NUJ Chairman, Ibadan Network, Federal Radio Nigeria, (FRCN) who died in the accident.

During the visit, he could not hold back tears when he saw the family members, friends and the colleagues of the deceased wailing and weeping as he assured that the union would not lack in its responsibility to the family of the deceased who died in active service.

He equally paid a visit to the two victims who are receiving treatment in UCH.

Two other journalists who died in the accident were: National Financial Secretary of the union, Mr. Adolphus Okonkwo and an official of the Nigerian Television Authority, Tejuoso, Lagos, Kafayat Odunsi,

The remaining five journalists who sustained injuries are receiving treatment at LAUTECH, Osogbo.

The NUJ has declared a seven day mourning in honour of the three dead members.

The National President of the NUJ, Malam Garba Mohammed, declared the mourning while addressing newsmen on the demise of the journalists in Osogbo on Saturday.

The accident occurred at about 7 p.m on Friday evening along Ilesa-Ile-Ife Highway when the victims were returning from Abuja.
