The gold medal was won by US Brittney Reese, who jumped 7.01m and the bronze by Serbia’s Ivana Spanovic, with a jump of 6.82m.
The Sapele-born athlete qualified for the final of the Women’s long jump event at the on-going IAAF World Championship in Moscow with a jump of 6.83m, placing second in the qualification behind Great Britain’s Shara Proctor who jumped a distance of 6.85m in her first attempt to automatically qualify for the final.
The minimum qualification requirement was 6.75m or at least the 12 best performances.
Nigeria hopes Okagbare would clinch another medal in the 100 metres race.
Earlier on in the day, the duo of Okagbare and Gloria Asumnu made the semi-final of the Women’s 100m, but Stephaine Kalu finished fifth in her race and failed to go through
But it was not all rosy for Nigeria in the other events as both Regina George and Omolara Omotoso crashed out in the Women’s 400m event.
