Okagbare: I’m Ready For 100m Race
After ending Nigeria’s 14-year wait for a World Championship medal of any colour on Sunday in Moscow, Blessing Okagbare who won the silver medal of the women’s long jump with 6.99m, Okagbare said she is now ready for the semi-final of 100m event of the ongoing 14th IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia Monday evening.
Speaking on a Lagos-based Brila FM from Moscow, Okagbare said she is ready to do the country proud by booking her place in the final.
The fastest woman in Africa said she will leave nothing to chance to ensure that she win the race at the end of the day as she did in London last month.
In the words of the First Bank Ambassador, “I am just looking forward to a good race today. Let’s wait till then to know what will come my way.”
Before the long jump event, Okagbare had posted 11.03secs to win one of the Heats of the 100m. She effortlessly strolled to the finish line ahead of Brazilian Ana Claudia Silva 11.08 and Schilonie Calvert 11.20secs of Jamaica.
Another Nigerian girl, Gloria Asumnu ran in 11.27secs and was placed third behind Olympic champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s 11.15secs and Franciela Krasucki’s 11.17secs of Brazil.
The third Nigerian in the sprint, Stephanie Kalu could not make the first three as she placed fifth in 11.67secs in the Heat won by the defending champion, Carmelita Jeter.
