The governor of Kano state, northwest Nigeria, Engr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso on Monday handed over admission letters to 100 teenagers who were selected to study French and other languages in Niamey, Niger Republic.

Kwankwaso committed about N1 billion in the newly constructed Kano/Niger Bilingual College, jointly owned by Kano and Niger Republic.

The establishment of the College in Niamey, Kwankwaso said, was a political strategy designed to further strengthen bilateral relationship between Niger and Kano which share borders.

He also added that the teenagers who were sponsored by the government would be well-armed in African languages, adding that acquiring such knowledge would further expose them to greater opportunities that can enhance their career, future pursuit and endeavour.

The new College is kicking off with 200 students as the government of Niger Republic is expected to sponsor the admission of 100 students.

According to Kwankwaso, the College constructed with state-of-the-art facilities is founded on the principles of high moral standard, discipline and dignity.

The Governor added that in six years time, over 1,400 students would have been admitted into the college, while thanking parents for their confidence in his administration by releasing their wards for the programme.

According to him, it is the determination of his administration to uplift the standard of education in the state, pointing out that reports reaching the government indicate that the 501 students studying in various universities abroad are performing above average, describing it as an encouraging development on the part of the beneficiaries.
