Nigerian top players, Segun Toriola and Funke Oshonaike began their quest for the top prize of the Lagos International Table Tennis Classics on bright note as they won their first round matches in the senior events this morning.
Toriola beat compatriot, Yakubu Ibrahim 3-0, while Oshonaike was too much for Akpan Ntoro in another 3-0 game in the women’s category.
The tournament’s top seed in the men’s category, Omar Assar of Egypt also had an easy ride in his first match defeating a Nigerian Babatunde Mayowa 3-0, while Italian Mihai Bobocica beat Nigerian Joseph Emmanuel 3-0.
Congo Brazzaville’s lady, Han Xing was too powerful for Ntiero Effionwan of Nigeria as she won 3-0 in another easy ride match played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Matches of the senior events are still ongoing as at the time of going to press. Meanwhile, Congo Brazzaville’s Saheed Idowu, said he was really impressed with the organisation of the tournament, organised by Lagos International Sports Classics inconjunction with the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, NTTF.
