An Abuja Grade 2 Area Court in Kado on Tuesday in the FCT sentenced six men to four months imprisonment each for joint act and attempt to disturb public peace.

The convicts include Tanko Zubeiru, 27, Yusuf Isah, 30, Abubakar Sani, 22, and Abba Lawal, 24, all of Gwarimpa in Abuja.

The rest are Nurudeen Abdulrasheed, 28, of Suleja in Niger, and Abdullahi Musa, 31, of Karimo Village in Abuja.

The presiding officer, Mr. Ahmed Ado, who sentenced the convicts after they had pleaded guilty to the two-count charge however gave them an option of paying a fine of N4,000 each.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Sergeant Salihu Mohammed, had said the six men were arrested after SP Ishaya Usman reported the case to the Gwarimpa Police Station on 27 August.

Mohammed said Usman and his patrol team, who are attached to the Gwarimpa Police Station, had while on duty arrested and brought the convicts to the station.

He said they were caught in a Toyota Carina E car with registration number FCT DJ 40 ABC.

The prosecutor said the convicts had with them dangerous weapons and, when questioned by the superintendent, one of the convicts had said they were on a revenge mission.

He said Usman quoted one of the convicts to have said: “We are on a revenge mission to attack a group of persons who attacked Tanko Zubeiru.”

Mohammed said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 95 and 113 of the Penal Code.

The presiding officer, therefore, sentenced them to one month imprisonment or a fine of N1,000 each for the first-count charge of joint act.

He also sentenced them to three months imprisonment or a fine of N3,000 each for the second-count charge of disturbance of public peace.
