Players Snub D’Tigress' Camp

Less than two weeks before the 2013 women’s Afrobasket dunks off in Mozambique’s capital city of Maputo, Nigeria women’s national team, D’Tigeress’ training camp at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, FCT is still not in full fledge of activities.

The camping which started on 7 September is billed to run till 18 September when the D’Tigress are scheduled to fly to Maputo.

According to the Media Officer of the NBBF, Patrick Omorodion, the team’s head coach, Scott Nnaji and assisted by coaches Lateef Erinfolami, Aderemi Adewunmi and Emmanue Odah are in charge of the camping exercise.

When our reporter visited the venue of the camping exercise on Sunday, only home based players and a couple of invited foreign based players were seen at the vvenu practising.

Commenting on why most of the invited foreign based players were not yet in camp, coach Adewunmi said, ‘Tuesday is the deadline for all  invited foreign based players  to arrive and we expect by tomorrow (Monday) everybody would have been in camp’.

Eight players from the Zenith Bank sponsored Nigeria women’s league have been invited to compete for slots in the team with their foreign-based counterparts.

The invited home based players are Nkechi Akashili, Magdalene Ukato, Atosu Upe,Grace Okonkwo, Evelyn Akhator and Nkem Akarawe.
