•Barrister Festus Keyamo: Disowned by APC as Senatorial candidate

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has disowned Barister Festus Keyamo as the party’s candidate for the Delta Central Senatorial bye-election into the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Delta Central Senatorial seat has not been declared vacant following the death of Senator Pius Ewherido.

This was contained in a statement signed Tuesday by APC’s National Vice-Chairman South South, Chief Tom Ikimi.

The statement described as false reports in the print and electronic media, particularly a paid newspaper advertisement in a national daily published on 13 September, 2013 that Keyamo has been picked as APC’s candidate for the Senatorial bye-election..

According to Ikimi, “for the avoidance of doubt and the benefit of all Nigerians, the said reports and publications are neither true nor authorised. They should therefore be disregarded completely.”

The statement also commiserated with the families of the late Senator Ewherido,  adding that the APC will not engage in any act that would clearly be pre-emptive of due process until the Senate or Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has formally declared the seat vacant.

According to the statement, the Interim National Executive, IEC, led by Chief Bisi Akande as National Chairman is the only organ that the APC has put in place, while it is in the process of putting in place State Harmonisation Committees in the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja.
