Reports reaching us from Nigeria’s premier tertiary institution, Yaba College of Technology, YCT, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos, have it that there is pandemonium in the institution.
P.M.NEWS sources revealed that the confusion started yesterday when students started throwing bottles in different directions and causing all sorts of trouble within the main campus of the institution. And as a result, all the students were confined to their hostels and movement restricted.
The cause of the riot could not be ascertained as at press time but an eyewitness disclosed that police officers were drafted to prevent break down of law and order.
According to Olufemi Jadesola, a student of the institution, “this is getting too much for us all. Some people have been throwing bottles here and there, destroying properties within the school premises.
“Right now, I’m in my hostel and everybody has been asked to stay put in their hostels as the riot inside the compound is getting worse. Nobody is allowed to go outside or come into the school.
“Even the SUG building was attacked and I can’t really say the cause of the riot because we did not hear anything prior to it,” the student said.
She also added that, “policemen were asked to take control of the situation yesterday but the students asked them to go back, that the situation isn’t what they can handle.”
President of the institution’s Student Union Government, Babalola Afeez, could not confirm the incident to our correspondent as at press time as he was in a meeting when a call was put through to him on his mobile phone.
