No language can express the power, beauty and heroism of a mother’s love for this week’s episode 11 on Supermom Reality TV show. The Reality TV show celebrates two orphanages that have contributed immensely to the lives of the children in their communities, Beth Torrey Home and LOTS Charity Home.

Beth Torrey Home was founded by an American, named Elizabeth Torrey in 1965. She came all the way to Nigeria, to spend her money, time and everything she has for the children. Beth Torrey orphanage is a home for the mentally challenged with 25 children and adults in its care. The children are taught how to read and write, trained to develop domestic, social, theatrical and singing skills. Some of the children are severely retarded and as such, they need constant supervision before they can successfully carry out certain tasks like housekeeping, feeding and many more.

They have a Catholic Church service for the blind, even His Eminence Cardinal Okojie will never miss their mass during his stay in Lagos; he feels the blind are gifted as they are less susceptible to sin.

Beth had really touched lives; there are so many kids out there that boastfully say “I am Beth Torrey’s child.”

The LOTS Project started in 2008, and at first Tolu didn’t find it easy as the environment thinks everybody wants to steal someone else’s destiny. She had trust issues with the parents of the children, the Area Boys were not left behind as they did a bit of their threatening too. LOTS project focuses on Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, in a community called ‘DUSTBIN ESTATE’ in Ajegunle, Lagos state.

As its name connotes, Dustbin Estate is a settlement in which its inhabitants build their houses with planks on refuse dumps.  LOTS Charity Foundation feeds, clothes and celebrates street kids during festive periods and her birthday.

Tolu takes care of medical needs of many of the kids and also bought computers for the children. To familiarize them with it and also to make them literate in that aspect, so as not to lack in the midst of their peers.
