Saturday night show started as the remaining eight contestants paid tribute to two past Reggae legends –Isaac Gregory and Lucky Dube. They sang Night Nurse by Isaac Gregory and Different Colours/One People by Lucky Dube.
There was palpable excitement as the show hosts, Joseph Benjamin and Adora Oleh prepared to announce the result of the contestants with the least number of votes that was brought by a representative of Alexander Forbes. Opening the envelope, Joseph called out Immaculate, Niniola, Simon, Roland and Jimoh as the contestants with the least votes; thereby making them probationers for the evening.
They took the stage one after the other to sing for survival. Putting aside the frustration of probation, they put in their best to impress the judges and also to escape being eliminated from the competition.
The judges saved Immaculate, the Faculty chose Niniola due to her consistency and willingness to deliver, and the remaining contestants not on probation snatched Roland from the claws of eviction, leaving Simon and Jimoh as the last eliminated contestants.
.With the remaining six contestants, the stage is set as the race to the finals begin. On Sunday, they started the competition with reggae songs. Immaculate performed Sweat It by Inner Circles. This was followed by Omolayo who performed Cool Down The Pace by Gregory Isaac, Olawale sang Rain Drops by 2Face, Niniola did Many Rivers To Cross by Jimmy Cliff. Roland did a beautiful one with Bob Marley’s No Woman, No Cry and Margaret rounded off smoothly with Mr Lover Man by Shabba Ranks.
The upbeat segment of the show started off with Immaculate performing We Are Family by Sister Sledge, which earned her some positive comments from the judges. Omolayo performed YMCA by Village People; the judges liked every bit of the performance. Olawale did justice to Fine China by Chris Brown and the judges were entertained as he connected well with the audience, band and made it look a very professional performance. Niniola did Baby Boy by Beyonce, but didn’t quite hit it for the judges. Roland excellently performed Yeah by Usher, and the judges commended him for a job well done. To wrap up the evening was Margaret who did justice to Titanium by David Guetta. The judges liked her fabulous performance and commended her for consistency from the beginning of the competition.
After all the renditions, the best performances for the night, according to the judges went to Olawale, Roland, Omolayo and Margaret, while they encouraged Niniola and Immaculate to work more on their voices.
