Kaduna Speaker Impeached

After series of attempts to remove the embattled Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Muazu Usman Gangara, representing Giwa East Constituency failed, some members of the state assembly today finally succeeded in impeaching him.

Gangara, his deputy, Daogar Mato,  alongside the  six principal officers of the house were all absent when the impeachment process was carried out.

Nineteen, out of the 26 eligible voters of the 34-member House of Assembly that were present during the session today, endorsed the impeachment of the speaker and his deputy, Dogara Mato.

A new speaker Shehu Usman Tahir, representing Giwa West Constituency, was elected the new Speaker while Peter Adamu, representing Kagarko Constituency, was elected Deputy Speaker.

Meanwhile, Gangara has come out to inform his supporters that he remains the speaker .

Gangara who spoke during a press conference at Nigeria Union of Journalists after his impeachment today, insisted that the action of the 19 members that impeached him and his Deputy Speaker, Dogara Mato was illegal and void.

” I am still the speaker and all my seven principal officers are with me”. The impeached speaker stated.

However, while stating that the purported sitting by some members of Assembly is a nullity, he urged his supporter to remain calm and ignore the impunity going on the assembly.
