Pelican Stars coach, Edet Egan and Rivers Angels attacking midfielder, Stella Mbachu have said Sierra Leone will not trouble the Super Falcons in the placement race for the 2014 African Women’s Championship (AWC) in Namibia.

The African football body, CAF on Monday handed the six-time African champions the Sierra Leone challenge for a place in the biennial top-flight football championship in the Southern African state next year.

The encounter will be a two-legged game as Nigeria will host the West African foes first while the reverse fixture will be in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Egan said the pairing favours Nigeria, but the Falcons must not go to sleep as Sierra Leone are capable of springing a surprise.

“Sierra Leone opposition is a good pairing, not a draw that should pose a problem for us.

“Sierra Leone by all standards should not cause us any sleepless night given the quality of players at our disposal.

“I’m not saying it will be a walk-over for us but if we put our act right we should be able to defeat Sierra Leone in both legs and qualify for 2014 Namibia game,” said Egan to supersport.com.

Mbachu said the pairing is a good one as she does not see Sierra Leone stopping the Super Falcons from qualifying for the African Women’s Championship in Namibia.

“The pairing is a very good one for us; it’s a good development to play against Sierra Leone after a very long stay away.

“I don’t know their strength right now but we know there is no minnows or push-over in football.

“The Falcons chance is very bright, Sierra Leone will merely honour the matches as the Falcons will surely pick the ticket,” said the Super Falcons goal poacher said.
